Back in the early 80’s in Nashville, my dad played in a few local bands. My uncle, my dad’s older brother, would make posters for the shows with sticker vinyl letters he got from an art supply store. We used to have these posters hanging up around the house when I grew up, and I always admired them. I showed them to Daniel, and he loved them. We decided we wanted to revamp my uncle’s ideas for a 5″ record for Record Store Day this year. I called up my uncle, and found out that he still had the original vinyl letters he used on the original posters. He mailed them to me and I used them to create this artwork.
We printed the final artwork on a Risograph machine that my friend has in his studio.
Everything was locally inspired, and locally made, even the 5″ lathe cut record.
Below you can see some of my uncle’s posters that I used for inspiration, along with my process and the final works.

This is the final front cover for the 5″

These are some scans put together to show my process. I stuck the letters on paper, scanned them, and later put it all together in photoshop.
